Aspiring Youth and The Links
Fieldtrip to Museum of Fine Arts

   
             
     
Thanks to the wonderful Missouri City Chapter of The Links, Inc. and our continued partnership with them, on October 7th the B.C. Elmore students were able to visit the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. In addition to being able to look upon great paintings and various art forms, the Aspiring Youth students were taught about the different careers in the museum industry.
   
             
   
After the Museum tour and lunch, the student traveled to Jack Yates High School to visit with the high school students involved in the “Eye on Third Ward” project. This project in the Museum of Fine Arts, showcases the high school students’ photographs of their own community. The students always seem to gain motivation to give their best effort when they see what their peers have done.
    
             
   
             
   
Aspiring Youth Students Rewarded with Dynamo Game
   
             
     

On October 14th the students from Jane Long Middle School and Project Chrysalis, an HISD charter school on the campus of Cage Elementary School, attended a Houston Dynamo Soccer Game. The students were so excited that they dressed in their favorite soccer t-shirts and made signs to cheer the hometown team. The students and staff from both schools expressed their excitement and many thanks for having the opportunity to attend the game.

   
             
   
             
   
Aspiring Youth’s Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest
   
             
     

Aspiring Youth’s annual Pumpkin Carving Contest was held on October 24th at Marshall and B.C. Elmore Middle Schools. Volunteers from the Houston Young Lawyer’s Association lent a hand as students transformed their lowly vegetables into funny and frightening Jack O’Lanterns. For most students this was a first-time experience, and many were surprised to find out what was inside a pumpkin!

   
             
   
The Jack O’Lanterns were judged for originality, winning the top three a cool prize. At the end of the day, the students were thrilled to take their creations home to show their families and friends.
   
             
   
             
   
"Mother to Mother" Annual Food Drive
   
             
     

On November 8th,  Aspiring Youth students explored their creativity and decorated hundreds of brown paper bags for the annual "Mothers for Mothers Food Drive" that collects canned goods at Christmas. Every morning empty bags are placed outside the door of each classroom in Marshall Middle School. Then throughout the day, canned goods are dropped into the bags.

   
             
   
At the end of the day the Aspiring Youth Leadership Council picks up the bags, consolidates the canned goods and puts out new bags for the next day. The drive lasts for two weeks and is expected to fill up to 200 to 300 bags with canned goods to be given to mothers who live in shelters at Christmas time.
    
             
   
             
   
"Reaching For the Stars” Gala on March 31st!
   
             
     

Each year Aspiring Youth holds an entertaining and exciting Gala, and this year promises to be the best ever. Our 8th annual "Reaching For the Stars" Gala will be held at the Houston Country Club this spring on March 31st. Your attendance is just one of many small ways in which you can make a huge difference in the life of a less fortunate youth. Mark your calendars and plan to have twice as much fun at our 8th annual "Reaching For the Stars" Gala.

   
             
   
             
   

Aspiring Youth's mission is to prepare at-risk youth to aspire to and attain their highest degree of success in school and in life. To fulfill our mission, Aspiring Youth focuses on the middle school years when children are transforming from childhood to teenagers. The choices made during the pre-teen years are the foundation for each student's future success.

Kroger Food Stores will also donate 1% of your grocery purchases if you use the Aspiring Youth™ Kroger card with your purchases (please let us know if you would like for us to send you a card to use at Kroger).

Donations to Aspiring Youth® are tax deductible to the extent allowed for 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations.  Clothing and small home items donations can be made by contacting Central Donations at 713-948-2828.
